Spring 2017 Update: WATCHMEN and a Colloquium at UW-Milwaukee

A couple short and quick updates:

Our “In Focus” section on Watchmen has finally hit the pages of Cinema Journal!  You can read it here.

Related, many of the contributors wrote capsules for In Media Res this past week to tie into the “In Focus.”  You can find them here.

Finally, I’ve been asked by my former Professors at UW-Milwaukee to give a colloquium talk on my book Panel to the Screen and my videographic work at [in]Transition fresh on the heels of this year’s SCMS conference.  A description, flyer, and Facebook group RSVP can be found below.

UW-Milwaukee Film Studies Graduate & Assistant Professor of Mass Communication at Texas A&M University–Texarkana

Media Studies in Transition: Comics Studies and Videographic Criticism.

This presentation will include a screening of a video based on Morton’s recent book, Panel to the Screen: Style, American Film, and Comic Books during the Blockbuster Eraand a discussion of videographic criticism and how it overlaps with alternate modes of film practice from essay films to documentary filmmaking.

Dr. Drew Morton is an Assistant Professor of Mass Communication at Texas A&M University–Texarkana. A graduate of UW-Milwaukee’s Film Studies program (BA, 2006), and of UCLA’s Cinema and Studies program (MA, 2008, Ph.D. 2012), his publications have appeared in Animation: An Interdisciplinary Journal, Cinema Journal, Journal of Graphic Novels and Comics, and Studies in Comics. He is the cofounder and coeditor of [in]Transition, the award-winning journal devoted to videographer criticism, and author of Panel to the Screen: Style, American Film, and Comic Books during the Blockbuster Era (University Press of Mississippi, 2016)

The Media Scholars Colloquium Series is organized by Michael Newman, Assoc. Prof. and Chair of the Department of Journalism, Advertising, and Media Studies; and Tami Williams, Assoc. Prof. of English and Film Studies; and Coordinator of the Media, Cinema and Digital Studies program in English.
